Pearl’s all new ePro Live drums has be shown as of today! Be sure to check out the video of the new drums in action over at the Pearl Drums website. It is interesting to note that Pearl’s new cymbals look to be re-branded Smart Trigger cymbals (Alesis Surge) and the R.E.D. Box module looks to be a re-branded Alesis DM10. For more information regarding the spec of the R.E.D. Box (Alesis DM10) please click here.

To give you a better idea of why I believe the new R.E.D. Box module is a re-branded Alesis DM10, here are a couple of pictures so you can judge for yourself:

Why is this important you may ask? Easy, Pearl seems to have this new website call RedBoxSoundShop.com. This is where you can buy new sound sets for your RED Box module. Alesis said that the DM10 would be able to upload new kits but never (as of yet) released any to upload into the module. It looks as if Pearl already has some ready for purchase. Hopefully, the DM10 will be able to use these new sound sets for the RED Box as well. Here’s hoping!

so the pearl hihat is a single zone hihat? just like the alesis dm 10 pro hihat?

  2. I guess Pearl could have a slightly different firmware but, based on the video? I’d say yes. I’m 95% sure it is single zone.

So do you know if this module is a purely Alesis product or is it a hardware realised by third party company and sold to Alesis or Pearl to adapt it on their own stuff ?

Anyway, it is exactly the same sounds that come from the RED BOX than those on the DM 10 !

    Regards

  4. It is an Alesis product and Alesis is working with Pearl. The basic sound set is most likely the same but, the sounds may have been tweaked a little differently for the default kit assignments on the RED box. I heard sounds in that Pearl video that sounded just like my DM10 but, the kit names were a little different. So, you could say, its not 100% the same but its about 99% the same.

I was wondering too whether Pearl rebranded the DM10. I had a part of the ansmwer by hearing that Pearl is the “reseller” of Alesis products in Europe…

I CAUGHT A GLIMPSE OF THE RED BOX ON VIDEO AND THOUGHT THIS LOOKS FAMILIAR…..ALESIS DM10 !!!!I JUST SOLD MY ALESIS SET BECAUSE OF THE NOT SO GREAT KITS AND VOICES….I ALSO DO NOT LIKE THE FEEL OF THE HEADS…..LOOKS LIKE THE PEARL SET IS USING A SOMEWHAT FULL SHELL AS A GIMMICK TO MASK A PRACTICE PAD LOOK…ALSO,THE BATTER HEAD LOOKS LIKE ANY OTHER E PAD WITH A FOAM INSERT UNDER THE HEAD WHICH MEANS THE FEAL WILL NOT BE ANY BETTER THAN ALESIS….GUESS I WILL KEEP LOOKING….

  9. Keep in mind that the Pearl triggers are not made like the Alesis triggers. The Pearl are made like traditional rubber drum triggers. They just happen to sit on top of a drum shell. Good luck finding what you are looking for.
