I thought it might be a good idea to show what it was like in the early 1990’s if you were an edrummer. I’m putting this up because it was the late 80’s early 90’s that influenced me the most when it comes to design and function of electronic drums. The following pictures are pages from an October 1991 Special Buyer’s Guide issue of Modern Drummer. Not only do you get to see ads for KAT (Dauz) and Ddrum, but you also get retail pricing (from 1991) on most of the equipment. Below are the pictures:

  1. Hate to admit it, but I was there in 1980 too. That year, I had just recorded my first album in NYC–on acoustic drums. And gee, was it difficult to get a good drum sound!!!! Foreigner was in the next room, and they worked on a the snare sound for “Urgent” for more than 3 days. Just the snare!

I still have my Kat, Midi K.I.T.I. and a dauz pad from that time period. I also still have my EMU Procussion sound module as well.
